Partner, Accel

Anand Daniel is one of India’s leading early-stage investors and joined Accel in 2010. He has been investing in technology startups since 2006, initially with Intel Capital in Silicon Valley and later with Flybridge Capital Partners in Boston. Prior to that, he spent several years in key engineering and management positions at Intel Corporation.

Anand holds an MBA from MIT, an MS in Electrical Engineering from Purdue, and a BE in Computer Science from the University of Madras.

Work At Accel

At Accel, Anand focuses on investments in consumer technology, online marketplaces, and healthcare technology. He has led investments in BlackBuck, Bounce, Forus, EduPristine (exited to DeVry), Rupeek, SenseHQ, Spinny, Swiggy, TaxiForSure (acquired by Ola), Vedantu, Vokal, and other early-stage companies. He also serves as a board member at most of these ventures.

With over a decade of experience as an investor in some of the most innovative companies, Anand knows how to identify the next big disruptor and what it takes to give startups that extra push. He firmly believes that in the next 5-10 years, the Indian economy is set to grow and that entrepreneurship will be the primary driver.

Passionate about technology and healthcare, Anand’s next big focus is on the relationship between these two sectors, with an eye on the post-pandemic future of digital health.

He believes that the typical doctor-patient relationship that underlines healthcare could be transformed into an equal partnership when the sector goes fully digital. He also forecasts a rise in comprehensive insurance care management plans in India in the next few years.

Anand hosts the Insight Podcast Series at Accel, through which he shares interesting entrepreneurial stories showcasing the inspiring journey of India’s top start-up founders.

The podcast provides practical lessons and knowledge from those who learnt the hard way, inspiring and educating aspiring entrepreneurs. Some of the stories they’ve covered include Swiggy’s first 500 days, Freshwork’s global expansion and Flipkart’s engineering scale-up.

“The irony is that we achieve far more in the long run when we have slack. We are more productive when we don’t try to be productive all the time.”
